With the current economic climate and the tightening of most household budgets, travelling within the UK is becoming ever more popular as holiday destinations. 1.Edinburgh Castle - The must visit landmark whenever you are visiting Edinburgh. Before heading to the castle remember to visit the royal mile on the way. It begins at Holyrood Palace and runs along to the castle's entrance. The royal mile is considered the oldest and busiest street in the city. If your lucky and visit during the Edinburgh Festival, the street will be full of tourists, entertainers and buskers creating a wonderful atmosphere.
2.Edinburgh Zoo – Not just for the children, but all the family. Please note that a family ticket is available and the tickets are not cheap therefore make sure you have several hours free to make the most of it, also children under 3 go free. With a large variety of animals and daily events be sure to catch the well renowned penguin march.
3.Dynamic Earth – Our Dynamic Earth will take you on a journey through our planets past, present and future. Using technology and interactive exhibits which use 4D and 3D experiences. Enabling children and adults to both experience the creation of earth in a fun and engaging way.
4.Calton Hill – By climbing onto Calton Hill you will be able to see a panoramic view of the city, Edinburgh castle and Arthur's seat to name a few major landmarks. You will also be able to visit Nelson's Monument whilst on the hill. The best thing is that it's free and very central therefore making it an easy place to visit and perfect location to have a picnic.
5.Royal Yacht Britannia – Visit Leith and see the Royal Yacht Britannia and witness the royal ship in all it's glory. The access can be found within the Ocean Terminal Shopping complex, which is also worth setting some time aside for also.
Whilst spending time within the city there is a vast array of B&B hotels and also many
luxury hotels Edinburgh has to offer. So regardless of budget and how many days you are willing to spend then there will be plenty of options for everyone, all generally located very central.
