Travel Website TripAdvisor has announced the winners of the Travellers' Choice Awards, in which the top rated hotels across the globe are recognised and celebrated. Complementing the prestigious award, is the 2011 Dirtiest Hotels Survey, exposing the filth, grime and gore of the world's most unhygienic accomodation.

The Travellers Choice Awards showcase the best in global accomodation, highlighting the most successful hotels in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and the South Pacific. The awards are dished out based on the millions of ratings received by TripAdvisor from holiday-makers.

Approximately 680 hotels featured in the awards, spilt into various categories such as Top Bargain Hotels and Top Hotels for Romance. The latter category was topped by the Capella Ixtapa in the Mexican state of Guerrero. In fact, Mexico was mentioned three times in the top ten within this category, with the Banyan Tree in the Playa Del Carmen, and the Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun coming in 3rd and 4th place respectively.

From absolute luxury to complete squalor, we now look to the Dirtiest Hotels awards of 2011. A comparison wth the winners of the Travellers' Choice awards emphasises the stark contrast between the style and finesse of the latter with the lack of basic cleanliness of the former.

With the list of the filthiest hotels grouped by region, its hard to choose an overall global winner. In Europe, and with a 91% non-recommendation rate, Club Aqua Gumbet in Turkey is deemed the continent's dirtiest hotel of the year.

Back to the joys of luxury hotels, and I can tell you that the top hotel in the UK, as chosen by European visitors, is the Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate. On a European level, the established class of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris took the honours of the top hotel in Europe.

Whether you are looking for one of the most romantic hotels in the world, or one of the most family friendly establishments in Asia, the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards provides a valuable source of information, reviews, and advice from people just like you.

For a guide on where not to stay on your travels, perhaps the Dirtiest Hotels 2011 survey will help you to avoid when you travel abroad, especially on a budget. The best of it is, the findings cover the entire globa, so wherever you're going, youre sure to find some useful tips from the millions of reviews submitted by the travelling community.
